New: Pick a Space When You Create a Group
As of this week's update, there's one more control in there when your webdock runs in List or Explorer layout: a Space dropdown, so you choose which Space the Group belongs to at the moment you make it.
Note: When the webdock is in Spaces Layout, new Groups automatically inherit the Space you're in, so there's no need to pick.

What are Spaces?
In Wavebox, a Space is a sealed container for logins. Each Space keeps its own cookies, so the Gmail in one Space and the Gmail in another are both signed in at the same time and never mix. That's how people run a Space per client, or keep work and home properly apart, with every account live at once in one window.
Worth knowing: some browsers use the word "Spaces" for grouping tabs by project, which tidies the view but shares one set of logins. A Wavebox Space is the other thing, the isolation itself and inside each Space are Groups that do the organizing: a Group collects the apps and tabs for one job, like a client's toolkit or your admin pile, and everything you put in it takes the Space's sign-in automatically.
Spaces hold your accounts, Groups arrange the work. Which brings us to the webdock, where all of this lives.
The three webdock views
The webdock (the sidebar) has three layouts, and they change what you're looking at:
- Spaces Layout shows one Space at a time. Pick a Space (circle icon in the top-left) and you see just its Groups (rounded squares), and anything you create in that space (apps/tabs etc) lands in it automatically.
- List Layout hides the Space icons and shows ALL Groups from ALL Spaces in one scrollable list. This is the agency and VA favourite: one Group per client, every client visible at once.
- Explorer Layout shows the same everything-at-once view as a tree: Groups, then apps, then tabs and tab folders. This version shows tabs in the webdock rather than in the tabstrip.
Switching takes two clicks. Hover over the Settings cog bottom left, click 'Webdock Layout' then choose from the picker. When the webdock is in List or Explorer Layout, there is also a switcher icon top left (next to the navigation buttons). Webdock layouts explained →
Why the dropdown is handy
In Spaces Layout the answer to "which Space does this new Group belong to?" is obvious: it's the one you're working in. In List and Explorer you're looking at everything at once, so until now a new Group was created first and told where it belonged afterwards. Fine once, maybe a tinsy bit tedious by the tenth client.
Now the choice happens in the popover. Setting up a new client in List Layout is one visit to one card: name the Group after the client, pick their colour, choose their Space from the dropdown (or create it), and add their first app. The Group arrives in the right place, signed in as the right account, with nothing to move later.
It's a small thing that keeps the model honest: Spaces hold your sign-ins, Groups organize the work, and now the two get connected at the exact moment a new bit of work begins.
