🚀 Make the New Tab Page Yours: Every Option in Wavebox

Your new tab page doesn't have to be a search box. In Wavebox it can be a different start page for every Space or Group.

Most browsers give you one new tab page for everything. Or you can choose a new tab page extension like Start.me instead. But did you know that Wavebox treats it like the rest of the browser: it can be different for each context you work in. A client's Group can open new tabs on that client's project board while your Home Space opens a page of to-dos and feeds. Here's every option:

1. Default search page (global setting)

Out of the box, a new tab shows a gradient background and a search box. Two easy tweaks:

Change the search engine under Settings > General > Search.
Click the Dashboard Settings icon (top right of any new tab) to change the background image or color.

2. Custom URL

Want every new tab to open your company site, a wiki, or a status page?

All Wavebox: Go to Settings > General > Appearance > New Tab Page, choose the custom URL option, and type the address.
Per Group: This is the one client-jugglers love. Right-click a Group in the webdock, choose Settings > Group Settings > Behaviour, and enter a New Tab URL. New tabs in that Group now open there, and this setting wins over everything else. A support Group that opens your helpdesk, a client Group that opens their Trello: each context starts where the work is.

3. Custom file (global setting)

As of the 150.2.121 update (8 July), the address can also be a file:// path to a local HTML file. That opens up some lovely tricks: a start page you've hand-built and keep in Dropbox or a shared drive so the whole team gets the same one, a local links page that loads instantly and works offline, or a page generated by a script (or AI?) each morning with today's numbers on it.

4. Dashboard

Dashboards are Wavebox's built-in start pages that you can customize with your own widgets, shortcuts, notes, and feeds. There are two ways to set this up:

For all of Wavebox: Go to Settings > General > Appearance > New Tab Page
Per Space: Open the Dashboard, click its Settings icon, and tick 'Use as your New Tab'.

What goes in the Dashboard is up to you: the Widget Library has to-do lists, sticky notes, Smart Notes, RSS feeds, Google Calendar, saved tab Collections, and more.

Which one wins?

If you set several, the order is: Group URL first, then the Space's Dashboard, then your global setting. So you can have a sensible default everywhere, and override it exactly where a context needs something different.

Dashboards and Spaces: Dashboards are agnostic, so they always open in the Space of the app you're in, correctly signed in, with the app's color on the tab. Even your blank tabs know which client they belong to.
