Tutorial: 3 Ways to Move Things Between Spaces.
Need to reorganize your Wavebox setup? Maybe you've created a new space for a client project and want to move some existing apps over, or perhaps you've realized a group would work better in a different space. Whatever the reason, Wavebox gives you three easy ways to move groups/apps/tabs between spaces β so you can pick whichever method suits you best.
What You'll Learn
In this tutorial, we'll walk you through three ways to move groups, apps, and tabs between spaces in Wavebox:
- Spaces Webdock β drag and drop groups between spaces directly from the sidebar.
- Drag & Drop Spaces Manager β the most versatile option, works for groups, apps, and tabs.
- Manual Settings β change the space for individual apps and tabs through their settings.
A Quick Note About Sign-In
Cookies and therefore app login credentials aren't shared between spaces, so you may need to sign in again after moving an app to a new space.
Method 1: Spaces Webdock (Groups only)
If you're using the webdock in Spaces Layout (the sidebar that shows your space icons at the top), you can simply drag a group, with all its contents, into a different space.
Video example: Switching the "Music" group from the "My Work" space to the "Personal" space.
- Make sure the webdock is in Spaces Layout (circles at the top)
- In the webdock, start dragging the group you want to move (e.g. "Music")
- Drop it onto the target space icon at the top (e.g. "Personal")
The group and everything in it will now live in its new space. You may need to sign in again for your credentials to be remembered in this space. This method is great for quick reorganization when you're already navigating between spaces.
Method 2: Drag & Drop Spaces Manager
The Drag & Drop Manager is the most versatile option and works for groups, apps, and tabs alike. It's especially handy when you want to move multiple items in one session.
Video example: Moving the "Music" group from the "My Work" space to the "Personal" space.
- Navigate to the group, app, or tab you want to move (e.g. "Music" group)
- Go to Settings > Spaces Tab > Drag & Drop Manager
- An overlay will appear on the Wavebox main window, with a list of your Spaces in the center column
- Find the Space you want to assign in the center list (e.g. "Personal")
- Drag the Space icon and drop it onto the group, app, or tab you want to move (e.g. "Music" group).
The group and its contents will immediately switch to the new space. Tip: As you click on each space in the central list, you'll see any groups/apps/tab belonging to the space highlighted with a purple border.
Method 3: Manual Settings
If you prefer a more precise approach, you can manually change the space for individual apps and tabs.
Moving an App
Video example: Moving the "Apple Music" app from the "My Work" space to the "Personal" space.
- Right-click on the app icon in the group tabstrip
- Select "App Settings" from the context menu
- Scroll to the Spaces section β it will show which space the app currently belongs to e.g. "My Work"
- Use the dropdown menu to choose the "Personal" space
Moving a Tab
Video example: Moving the "Spotify premium" tab from the "My Work" Space to the "Personal" Space.
- Look for the Spaces indicator icon at the far right of the address bar
- Click it to open the menu β it shows the current Space at the top (e.g. "My Work")
- Choose the "Open in Space" option
- Select the space you want the tab to move to (e.g. "Personal")
Wrapping Up
Reorganizing your Wavebox spaces doesn't have to be a chore. Whether you prefer the visual drag-and-drop approach or the precision of manual settings, you can shuffle your groups, apps, and tabs between spaces in just a few clicks. The Drag & Drop Manager is your go-to for bulk changes and works across groups, apps, and tabs, while the spaces webdock and manual settings are perfect for quick, one-off moves.
