Tab Groups come to Wavebox

Tab Groups come to Wavebox

Wavebox has always tried to be flexible enough to let you work in a way that works best for you. Wavebox has had Webdock Groups since the beginning, but one thing we've heard you ask for is Tab Groups in the main Wavebox window.

Well, if you've ever found yourself staring at a tabstrip full of related tabs and wishing you could just bundle them up, the latest version of Wavebox is for you. We've brought Chromium-style tab groups into the Wavebox tabstrip — coloured pills, click-to-collapse, drag-to-reorder, the lot!

👆 Click to collapse and expand

A single click on a Tab group pill collapses or expands it right in the strip. Collapsed groups hide their tabs but keep them open — perfect for tucking away the "later" stuff while you focus on the task in front of you. Click again to bring everything back.

✋ Drag to reorder whole groups

Grab a Tab Group and drag it. The whole run travels with it, header and member tabs, so you can shuffle a five-tab "Research" group past your "Email" group without breaking it apart. Drop any tab (or a multi-selection) onto a tab group to add it

🛌 Sleep, wake, and send-to — by the folder

Right-click a Tab Group, and you'll find a handful of useful actions:

  • Sleep all tabs — put the whole folder to sleep in one go, reclaim the memory
  • Wake all tabs — bring them all back when you need them
  • Send to → New window / another Webdock Group — move the whole folder somewhere else

Great for the "I'm done with this project for the day" moment.

Explorer Webdock

If you've ever used the Explorer Webdock Layout, then you already know about tab folders in Wavebox. When you switch to one of the other layouts, Wavebox used to stop showing these folders, which is kind of confusing. The tab groups in the tab strip are the same as your folders. This means no more lost context when switching Webdock Layouts. Great for those of you who love your tabs!

Try it out

The new Tab Groups are available now in the beta version of Wavebox and we expect them to move to the stable channel over the next week or so. Don't forget to send your feedback across our socials!
