Browser Containers Just Went Mainstream!

Two browsers added native containers this month. Firefox has containers built in as a preview: right-click a tab, choose a container, and that tab keeps its own cookies. Brave shipped its own native containers a few weeks earlier. In both a container isolates a single tab's logins, letting you stay signed in to two accounts on the same site, like two Gmails, in separate tabs, in the same browser window.

How does this compare to Chrome? Chrome uses Profiles instead of containers. Profiles let you stay signed in to multiple accounts, but each profile runs in a separate browser window, so there's no way to have them side by side in the same browser window.

Here's the part that surprises people: in Wavebox, the container lives at the level of the individual tab. Every single tab belongs to a Space, and it carries that Space's logins.

Day to day, Wavebox users don't need to think about this, because everything inherits sensibly. Open a new tab inside an app and it joins that app's Space. Add an app to a Group and it takes the Group's Space. Create a Group inside a Space and everything you put in it lands there too. You choose the Space once, at the top, and it flows down.

But because the choice really belongs to each tab, you can always override it, giving you granular control, right at your fingertips.

Every tab has a small Space indicator icon in the address bar; click it to open that tab in a different Space, and it reloads with that Space's logins. A Group can even hold tabs from different Spaces at the same time. And if you switch the webdock to List Layout, you can see every Group and app from every Space in one list!
