Brainbox: Quick Start Guide
Get AI help on any page, in any tab, across all your accounts — without leaving Wavebox. This guide gets you doing useful things with Brainbox in minutes.
For a full walkthrough of the panel and settings, see the Brainbox AI Overview. For details on creating custom Skills, see Brainbox Skills: Create & Manage.
One Panel Per Tab — And You Can Open Several at Once
When you open Brainbox, the panel is tied to the tab you're on. Switch to a different tab and the panel steps aside — switch back and it picks up where you left off. Every tab can have its own conversation running, and you can have multiple panels open at the same time — even side by side from different Spaces. For a full explanation of how this works, see the Brainbox AI Overview.
Summarize Any Page in Seconds
Open the Brainbox panel by clicking the Brainbox icon in the toolbar (top-right). Type a question and press Return — that's it.
Attach Multiple Tabs
Click + and select any tab from the list. But the real power is the @ shortcut. Type @ in the prompt box and a list of your open tabs appears. Select one, ask your question, and Brainbox reads the page for you.
@BBC News tab — give me a 3-sentence summary of the top stories.
@Project brief — what are the key deadlines I need to know about?
Because Brainbox is built into Wavebox, it works across all your Spaces and accounts. Reference your work Gmail in one tab and a client's Trello board in another — in the same conversation.
@Client A email and @Client B Slack thread — are there any scheduling conflicts this week?
Tip: Your conversations are saved automatically. Click the Chat Menu (☰) to find and reopen any previous chat.
Compare Tabs in Different Spaces
Need to compare two calendars or meeting notes? Type @ in the prompt box followed by the name of the tab. Tabs are shown from all Spaces, so you can select two or more tabs for separate clients or businesses.
@Notion (client A space), @Notion (client B space) — compare these meeting notes and check for any date clashes.
Translate, Fix Grammar, or Check Your Tone
Highlight any text on any page, right-click, and select Brainbox to access your Skills instantly:
- Translate — get an instant translation in the Brainbox panel.
- Grammar — catch errors without changing your style or meaning.
- Tone Check — find out if your message might land as passive-aggressive, too blunt, or unclear before you send it.
You can also type /s in the prompt box to access any Skill inline — no right-clicking needed.
Chat with a PDF or Uploaded File
Click the + button (Attach content) in the prompt box to attach content:
- Upload files — PDFs, documents, spreadsheets. Ask Brainbox questions about them and it'll quote from the original with page references.
- Paste from clipboard — copy a table, a code snippet, or a chunk of text and paste it straight into Brainbox.
- Recent tabs — quickly pull in content from tabs you've been working in.
- Attach all tabs in window — pull in every tab at once so Brainbox can work across all of them.
[Upload a PDF] What are the three most important recommendations in this report?
[Paste a spreadsheet table] What trends do you see in this data?
Screenshot and Ask
Sometimes it's easier to show Brainbox what you're looking at. Click the Screenshot (📷) button in the prompt box, then drag to capture a region of your current tab.
[Screenshot an error dialog] What does this mean and how do I fix it?
[Screenshot a chart] What trends should I flag to the team?
[Screenshot a UI mockup] Write a short description of this interface for our documentation.
Use Voice Input
Click the Voice input (🎙️) button in the prompt box and speak your question. Brainbox transcribes it so you can review before sending.
Pop Out the Panel
Click the pop-out icon (square with arrow) next to the X in the panel to detach Brainbox into its own window. Drag it anywhere — including to a second monitor — and keep chatting while you work in Google Docs, Outlook, or any app outside Wavebox.
You can pop out multiple panels at the same time. For example, pop out a panel from your work Gmail and another from a client's project board, and use them side by side to cross-reference or compare information across accounts.
Unlike a Chrome extension sidebar, Brainbox's pop-out stays with you wherever you go.
Pick the Right AI Engine
Click the engine selector in the prompt box to switch models:
- GPT-5 Mini (Low / Medium / High) — included with Pro. Medium works well for most tasks.
- Wavebox Assistant — optimised for Wavebox-specific help.
- GPT 5.2, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Haiku 4.5, Claude Opus 4.5 — available with your own API keys.
Tip: Use Low for quick, simple answers. Switch to High or a premium model for detailed analysis or creative writing.
Save the Good Stuff
As you use Brainbox, you'll find some conversations are worth keeping. Open the Chat Menu (☰), hover over any chat, and click the kebab icon (⋮) to:
- Pin — keep important chats at the top of your list.
- Rename — give it a descriptive name (e.g. "Client email draft - March" instead of "New Chat").
- New Smart Note — keep useful outputs like summaries, translations, or action item lists inside Wavebox, always one click away.
- Add to a Dashboard — drop the Brainbox chat widget onto any Dashboard so AI is front and centre when you start your day.
Tip: Pin chats you're still iterating on, save finished outputs as Smart Notes, and convert your best prompts into Skills. Over time, you'll build a personalised toolkit that saves you hours.
Convert Chats into Skills
It can take a few tries to create the best prompts. Turn a great prompt into a reusable one-click action. See Brainbox Skills: Create & Manage for details.
