Tab Boosting
Boosting transforms a regular browser tab into a permanent app in Wavebox. This gives you quick access to your favorite sites with enhanced features like persistent logins, notifications, unread badges, and a dedicated icon.
When to Boost a Tab
Boosting is ideal for:
- β Sites you visit daily or weekly
- β Services where you need to stay logged in
- β Tools where notifications matter
- β Custom websites not available in the App Store (e.g., company intranets, client portals)
β οΈ Important: For popular services like Slack, Gmail, Teams, Asana, etc., we recommend adding them from the Wavebox App Store instead of boosting. App Store apps include enhanced notification and badge support that custom weblink apps don't have.

Choosing the Right App Type
When you boost a tab, Wavebox will check if there's a matching app in the App Store:
| Scenario | What to Do |
|---|---|
| Match found (e.g., Slack, Gmail) | β Select the App Store version for full notification/badge support |
| No match (e.g., company intranet) | β Click "Create Custom Weblink App" |
| Match found but you want custom settings | β οΈ Consider using App Store version anywayβyou can customize settings after |
π‘ Why does this matter?
App Store apps include extra notification and badge support that Wavebox specifically builds for each service. If you boost Slack as a custom weblink instead of using the App Store version, notifications may not work reliablyβeven with sleep disabled.
Customizing Your Boosted App
After boosting, you can customize your app:
- Right-click on the app icon
- Select "App Settings"
- Adjust settings like:
- App name and icon
- Home URL
- Sleep and auto-wake settings
- Notification sounds
- Space assignment
